3D Oil Reservoir Visualisation Using Octree Compression Techniques Utilising Logical Grid Co-Ordinates

چکیده
Octree compression techniques have been used for several years for compressing large three dimensional data sets into homogeneous regions. This compression technique is ideally suited to datasets which have similar values in clusters. Oil engineers represent reservoirs as a three dimensional grid where hydrocarbons occur naturally in clusters. This research looks at the efficiency of storing these grids using octree compression techniques where grid cells are broken into active and inactive regions. Initial experiments yielded high compression ratios as only active leaf nodes and their ancestor, header nodes are stored as a bitstream to file on disk. Savings in computational time and memory were possible at decompression, as only active leaf nodes are sent to the graphics card eliminating the need of reconstructing the original matrix. This results in a more compact vertex table, which can be loaded into the graphics card quicker and generating shorter refresh delay times. Keywords—3D visualisation, compressed vertex tables, octree compression techniques, oil reservoir grids.

Permeability upscaling in fractured reservoirs using different optimized mother wavelets at each level
We use a multi-resolution analysis based on a wavelet transform to upscale a 3D fractured reservoir. This paper describes a 3D, single-phase, and black-oil geological model (GM) that is used to simulate naturally-fractured reservoirs. The absolute permeability and porosity of GM is upscaled by all the possible combinations of Haar, Bior1.3, and Db4 wavelets in three levels of coarsening. The ap...
متن کاملQuadtree and Octree Grid Generation
Engineering analysis often involves the accurate numerical solution of boundary value problems in discrete form. Hierarchical quadtree (or octree) grid generation offers an efficient method for the spatial discretisation of arbitrary-shaped two- (or three-) dimensional domains. It consists of recursive algebraic splitting of sub-domains into quadrants (or cubes), leading to an ordered hierarchi...
متن کاملNew Approaches in 3D Geomechanical Earth Modeling
In this paper two new approaches for building 3D Geomechanical Earth Model (GEM) were introduced. The first method is a hybrid of geostatistical estimators, Bayesian inference, Markov chain and Monte Carlo, which is called Model Based Geostatistics (MBG). It has utilized to achieve more accurate geomechanical model and condition the model and parameters of variogram. The second approach is the ...
متن کاملValidation of a vision-based, three-dimensional facial imaging system.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of a newly developed three-dimensional (3D) imaging system in recording facial morphology. METHODS Twenty-one infants with cleft lip each had a full-face alginate impression taken at the time of primary lip repair, and a stone cast was constructed from each impression. Five anthropometric points were marked on each cast. Each cast was...
متن کاملLow-constant Parallel Algorithms for Finite Element Simulations using Linear Octrees
In this article we propose parallel algorithms for the construction of conforming finite-element discretization on linear octrees. Existing octree-based discretizations scale to billions of elements, but the complexity constants can be high. In our approach we use several techniques to minimize overhead: a novel bottom-up tree-construction and 2:1 balance constraint enforcement; a Golomb-Rice e...
